Top 5 Keto Taco Bell Hacks
Have a favorite menu item that didn’t make the list? Taco Bell’s nutrition calculator makes it easy to plan ahead so you know what modifications are necessary to meet your goals. Here are my top 5 tips for success:
- Avoid the obvious: potatoes, fries, chips, tortillas, rice, and beans. Order your quesadilla, taco, or burrito in a bowl with a fork.
- Order double meat, for a higher protein, more satiating meal.
- Load up on sauce! Like guacamole, sour cream, nacho cheese, and salsas.
- Add fat for a keto meal. Load up on sour cream, cheese, and guacamole.
- Ask for extra veggies to bulk up the meal.
What to Avoid
The carbs in Taco Bell are the usual culprits: tortilla, rice, beans, and corn — each of these ingredients are used in most of Taco Bell’s most popular orders. Such as:
- Fiesta Taco Salad – Carbs: 75g, Net Carbs: 63g
- Crunchwrap Supreme – Carbs: 71g, Net Carbs: 65g
- Cheesy Gordita Crunch Supreme – Carbs: 43g, Net Carbs: 38g
- Steak and Cheddar Nacho Box – Carbs: 116g, Net Carbs: 106g
- Seven Layer Burrito – Carbs: 58g, Net Carbs: 50g
What About Sauces?
A wise broke college student once told me that “Taco Bell entrees are really just vehicles for Border sauce”. Who doesn’t love to add those witty little sauce packets to their tray? If you can relate, I’ve got fabulous news:
- Fire sauce – 0g carbs
- Hot Sauce – 0g carbs
- Mild sauce – 0g carbs
- Nacho cheese – 2g carbs
- Guacamole – 1g carbs
Sneaky Carbs in Taco Bell Orders + Substitutes
There are a few sneaky ingredients that’ll increase to carb count of your order — here’s what they are and some potential swaps:
- Nacho cheese: 2-4g carbs. Optional swap: shredded three-cheese blend.
- Seasoned beef: 5g carbs. Optional swap: chicken or grilled steak.

Shawne
I was a devoted Taco Bell fan , Taco Bell has been a great contributor of my extra weight. Miss the food but I have not eaten there in over a month. I don’t see how I can eat the Mexican Pizza or the Doritos Locos Tacos on the Keto Diet. Someday I will be able to enjoy it , on occasion.
Your site is awesome. Thank you for all you do.
Lindsey
Hiii Shawne!!! Thank you for being here! And I hope you find all the resources you’re looking for!

Laurel Anne Van Dyke
Thank you for this information. I have recently started back on a low carb diet and wondered if anything at Taco Bell was possible. I did not know about their Power Menu.
Lindsey
Wow! Happy for you Laurel! 🙂 Goodluck on your Low Carb journey <3 <3 <3
Krissy
My carb manager app says the Power Menu Bowl Steak you list here is 65 carbs. I ordered it based on your information and it definitely looks more like 9 than 65, but how confident are you in your numbers?
Lindsey
Hi Krissy! All the nutritional information in this article was pulled from their nutrition portal 🙂 Hope you enjoyed!
Rashan
Hi! I thought the rice and black beans in the chicken power bowl were considered “Good” carbs. Is rice and beans bad carbs?
Lindsey
Hi Rashan! It depends on your dietary restrictions and your eating plan. Those following a strict low carb lifestyle typically avoid rice and beans, as they’re high carb foods – if you’re simply cutting out sugar, you may consider eating them. Hope this helps!
Kyle
The beans are 8 carbs, and the rice is 34 carbs. So, the beans aren’t absolutely terrible because there is some fiber in there, but still not great for keto since the carb limits are so low. The rice is definitely a no go, but if you aren’t going too strict, the beans might be okay!
Lindsey
Hope you enjoy Kyle!
Amy
How many carbs are in the seasoned ground beef?
Lindsey
Hi Amy! They don’t really parse each ingredient out like that on their nutrition calculator but feel free to check it out for yourself. Hope this helps! https://www.tacobell.com/nutrition
Toni
This is so helpful! Thanks for the guide ?

Hi Toni! I hope this helps. Enjoy!?
